WANTED...Someone who wants to see faces in a classroom light up!  Someone who likes to hear children call out……

“Yeah! It’s GRACE Arts!”

Someone who likes to learn right along with the kids.

If this sounds like YOU, then GRACE Arts may be your volunteer opportunity!  We work with the children at Stenwood to introduce them to different artists and styles.  No experience is necessary.  Plenty of assistance is available.  Teacher and assistant volunteers are needed.

 GRACE Arts Overview:
The Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) was formed in 1974 as a non-profit visual arts organization whose mission is to nurture and develop contemporary visual arts in our diverse community through exhibitions and educational programs.  The Art in the Schools (AIS) program was established in 1976 to supplement and support our children’s art experience in the schools.

Each month, parent volunteers for each classroom spend an hour delivering a short presentation (15 min. or less), and lead the class in a hands-on (age appropriate) art presentation.  The “lead teacher” prepares the short presentation (based on biographical and pictorial information provided by GRACE), followed by a project that allows the students to understand a bit more about the artists methods/medium.  The lead teacher can develop their own project, use one discussed at a brainstorming session, or ask for help and additional resources from one of the GRACE Arts coordinators.  The assistants help distribute materials, assist the students, and aid in the clean-up.  Siblings are welcome in the classroom (provide a small project for them to do if possible)
